3D Epoxy Flooring in Abeokuta & Across Nigeria

A 3D epoxy floor is an image — water, sand, stone, a shark, a company logo — printed at high resolution, laid onto a prepared base and sealed under a thick layer of crystal-clear resin. The depth of that clear layer is what tricks the eye: you appear to be standing over the scene rather than on a picture of it.

How a 3D floor is built up

  • Design — you choose or commission an image, and we scale it to the room so the perspective reads correctly from the main doorway
  • Base preparation — grinding, repair and priming, exactly as for any epoxy floor
  • Base coat — a self-levelling white or coloured epoxy that gives the print a flat, uniform background
  • Print installation — the image is laid onto the cured base and bedded down without air pockets or creases
  • Clear build layer — 3 to 5mm of crystal-clear resin poured over the print; this is where the depth comes from
  • Top coat — a scratch-resistant clear finish, gloss or satin, and UV-stable where sunlight reaches the floor

Getting the design right

The most common disappointment with 3D floors comes from a design chosen on a phone screen and then stretched across a room where the perspective no longer works. We scale and orient the artwork to the viewing angle people actually enter from, and we show you a room mock-up before anything is printed.

Image resolution matters as much as the artwork. A file that looks sharp at postcard size will be visibly pixelated at three metres across, so we source or commission print-resolution files. Where you want a logo or a custom scene, our designer works it up and you approve it before we commit to print.

Rooms with strong natural light need a UV-stable clear top coat, otherwise the resin will amber over the years and shift the colours of the image beneath it.

Pouring the clear layer in Nigerian conditions

The clear pour is the stage that makes or ruins a 3D floor, and it is far less forgiving than any opaque coat because every defect is magnified by the depth of resin above it. Two Nigerian variables decide how it goes.

The first is temperature. Pot life roughly halves for every 10°C above the 20 to 25°C a datasheet assumes, so at 30°C a clear pour begins to thicken well before a room-sized quantity has finished self-levelling. A thickened clear layer traps its own air rather than releasing it, and those bubbles cure permanently into resin sitting over an image nobody can ever reach again. We pour clear layers early in the morning, in batches sized for the actual room temperature, and spike-roll the surface to release entrained air while the material is still genuinely fluid.

The second is airborne dust and insects. A clear pour stays wet for hours in an open room, and anything landing on it in that time is sealed in at full magnification. We screen the room, shut down fans and air conditioning during the pour, and work at times of day when harmattan dust is not moving. It is also why we will not pour a clear layer in a room where other trades are still working.

Cure sequence for a typical 3D floor: the base coat must be fully cured and dead flat before the print is laid, the print is bedded and left before the clear goes over it, and the floor takes light foot traffic about 24 hours after the final top coat and reaches full hardness at seven days. Each of those waits is why a 3D floor takes seven to ten days rather than the three or four a plain floor needs.

How 3D floors fail, and how we avoid it

  • Bubbles frozen in the clear layer — air entrained during mixing or released from the substrate, trapped by a pour that thickened before it degassed. Avoided by mixing slowly, pouring in the cool of the morning and spike-rolling the wet surface.
  • Creases and air pockets under the print — the image lifts as a visible ridge once the clear layer magnifies it. Avoided by bedding the print onto a fully cured, dead-flat base and working the air out from the centre.
  • The base telegraphing through the image — any ripple, trowel mark or unlevel patch in the base coat shows through the print. This is why the base is self-levelling rather than rolled.
  • Ambering over a sunlit floor — standard clear resin yellows under prolonged direct sun and shifts every colour in the image beneath it. Avoided with a UV-stable top coat in any room with strong natural light.
  • Visible pixelation — an image that looked sharp on a phone screen, printed at three metres across. Avoided by insisting on print-resolution files and telling you honestly when yours will not hold up.
  • A perspective that reads wrong — artwork scaled without reference to the doorway people actually enter from. Avoided with a room mock-up approved before anything is printed.

Durability, cost and timeline

The image itself is never exposed — it sits under several millimetres of clear resin, so what wears is the top coat, not the artwork. A 3D floor in a home will look new for a decade or more, and a fresh clear top coat restores the gloss if a busy commercial floor dulls.

It is the most expensive epoxy finish we install, and honestly so: the print, the extra resin depth and the design work all add cost, and the clear pour is unforgiving of dust or rushed work. Price is driven by the area, the depth of the clear layer, whether the artwork is licensed or custom-commissioned, and the condition of the existing floor.

Allow seven to ten days for a typical room. Each layer has to cure fully before the next goes on — the clear pour in particular cannot be rushed — and the floor reaches full hardness about seven days after the final coat.

Caring for a 3D floor

  • Damp mop with a mild neutral detergent; never use abrasive pads or scouring powder
  • Keep grit off the surface with entrance matting — sand is what dulls a gloss finish
  • Felt pads under furniture, and lift rather than drag heavy items
  • Wipe standing water in bathrooms rather than leaving it to sit at the edges
  • A re-applied clear top coat every several years brings the depth and gloss back

3D Epoxy Flooring — Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use my own photograph or company logo?

Yes, provided the file is high enough resolution to print at floor scale — a phone snapshot usually is not. Our designer will tell you honestly whether your file will hold up, and can redraw a logo at print resolution if needed.

How thick is the clear layer over the image?

Typically 3 to 5mm. Less than that and the depth effect is weak; much more and the cost rises sharply for little visual gain. We recommend a depth based on the image and the size of the room.

Will the picture scratch or wear away?

No. The print sits under the clear resin, so nothing touches it. Any scratching happens in the sacrificial top coat, which can be sanded and re-applied without disturbing the artwork.

Can a 3D floor go in a bathroom?

Bathrooms are one of the most popular locations for them. We use an anti-slip additive in the top coat for wet areas, which slightly reduces the mirror gloss but is not a trade-off worth skipping.

Does the floor get hot in the Nigerian sun?

A dark image in a sun-drenched room will warm up like any dark floor. The resin itself is unaffected by those temperatures, but we specify a UV-stable top coat for sunlit rooms so the colours do not shift over time.

How much more does 3D cost than a plain epoxy floor?

Substantially more — the print, the extra resin depth and the design work are all additional. We quote per square metre after seeing the room and the artwork, and we will always tell you when a metallic finish would give you a similar impact for less.
